Article: Cinematography and Black Skin

Marte Um e M8 - When Death Comes to the Rescue of Life: Intermediality and Black Photography.

This article aims to highlight the relationship between intermediality and the aesthetic representation of Black people in cinema, specifically in terms of the display, contrast, and treatment of color. In this research, we draw on the studies by Lorna Roth of Concordia University titled “Looking at Shirley, the Ultimate Norm: Color Balance, Image Technologies, and Cognitive Equity," as well as the films *Marte Um*, directed by Gabriel Martins, and *M8—Quando a Morte Socorre a Vida de Jeferson*, to highlight the relationship between intermediality (RAJEWSKY, 2012) and the creative practice of exposure and treatment of Black skin color.

Residency; Dance, Music, Film:

R2 Madrid | How to Prepare for the Explosion.

Conexión Caníbal This was the second research residency organized by the Istmo Nómade collective in Madrid, as part of the creative process for the work *Cómo prepararse para la explosión*. The project, which began in Italy in 2025, is now being revived in Madrid, incorporating new artists and expanding its artistic languages. In this phase, musicality and soundscapes take on a more intense presence through the practices proposed by Irene Novoa. Added to this new layer is the audiovisual work created in collaboration with Matheus Vieira. The piece is part of an artistic research project conceived by Fausto Ribeiro and Lara Barzon, in dialogue with the body-sound research led by Irene Novoa and Lara Barzon. In *How to Prepare for the Explosion*, we seek not only to create a work, but also to challenge certain contemporary paradigms and open cracks toward future forms of experimentation. We are interested in constructing bodies that grapple with the imminence of a catastrophe—a time when fleeing no longer seems a possibility. Instead of fleeing, we explore other strategies: devising containment plans, imagining forms of resistance, and opening new perspectives on what is to come. Its premiere is scheduled for 2027, in England and Madrid. In the meantime, we continue to prepare. In 2026, the project will continue its tour through Brazil and Uruguay… until the world ends.
